FINALLY, a SFB update!
This page has no SSDs but has a lot of information you need in order to understand the SSDs in Parts 2-4.
Read, enjoy, and most of all be horrified. :)

Y164 (Stardate 7500) [Introduction]

Admiral James Tiberius Kirk stepped back three steps and stretched out his arms.
"V'Ger, we are the Creator."

The Ilia-probe turned towards Kirk and spoke in a harsh voice:
"That is illogical! Carbon-based units are not true lifeforms!"

Kirk thought fast, his mind racing to save Earth from V'Ger's gigantic torpedoes in orbit.
"We can prove it to you. We can make it possible for V'Ger to complete it's programming. Only the Creator could do that."
He turned to the side and flipped open his communicator.
"Uhura, order up library records on late twentieth-century NASA probe, Voyager Six; specifically, get us the old code signal ordering Voyager to transmit its data, And fast, Uhura, fast!"
A female voice on the other end answered hurriedly, "Aye sir!"

The Ilia-probe stepped towards Kirk, with almost anticipation in it's eyes.
Spock stood near the Voyager probe, scanning it with a tricorder, his eyebrow raised in astonishment.
Decker and McCoy stepped away from the Ilia-probe as it approached.

Kirk, waiting for the response, blurted out:
"The Creator will respond, but first, V'Ger must remove the orbiters around the third planet."
He immediately realized his request was foolish.
Damn impatience! Me thinks I seriously overplayed my hand; hurry up Uhura...

The Ilia-probe didn't believe Kirk's last request for one second.
"Misinformation is forbidden, Kirk-unit!"

There was a rush of energy, and Kirk could hear screams from his communicator, which still lay open waiting for Uhura's response.
"Enterprise, come in."

Uhura responded, her voice was slurred from crying.
"Earth is being attacked by the orbiters! The planet surface is being destroyed!"

That was enough for crewman Bradley, who, unknown to the others, had followed them and was watching from a distance. As the Section 31 agent on board the Enterprise, it was his job to secretly watch and protect the Federation from outside threats. Bradley raised his phaser and fired at the Voyager probe.

The phaser blast of course did no damage at all. The V'Ger probe made a shrill sound of disapproval. Spock, standing nearby, was glanced by a powerful plasma discharge, and he fell. The plasma discharge hit Bradley square in the chest, and he evaporated as he turned into an energy pattern.

Kirk knew he didn't have much time left, so he shouted into the communicator:
"Scotty, order two-zero-zero-five! Execute!"

The Enterprise immediately exploded into a gigantic fireball, but the fireball itself suddenly disappeared from view. McCoy gasped, exclaiming "The explosion itself was turned into an energy pattern!".

Kirk raced to Spock's side, who lay dying next to the V'Ger probe. Kirk knew he was next, and there was nothing he could do about it. Suddenly, he heard a familiar high pitched whine. What the hell?! I'm being grabbed by a transporter of all things...

Seeing Kirk being transported, Spock quickly raised his hand to Kirk's face, and uttered, "Remember". Spock then dropped lifeless as Kirk dematerialized.

Kirk and McCoy rematerialized aboard the USS Reliant's transporter room. Decker was already here; he approached them and spoke.
"I received a signal from Clark Terrell here, whose ship was scanning the mouth of V'Ger, and saw what happened."

Clark Terrell approached Kirk, a sick look on his face.
"Earth and the Moon's planet surfaces have been completely destroyed. Nineteen billion people!"
Terrell's mind reeled, as he babbled losses as they came to him:
"Starfleet Command, Spacedock, the incomplete Excelsior,..." and he went on.

Y164 (Stardate 7500) [Campaign]

This the set-up for the "Shattered Universe", which is a combination of the 1999 Campaign and the planned material from the SmileyLich Christmas and New Year's pages. Most of the material involves the 2X tech level, something which has been largely ignored and under-developed by both ADB and me. It goes something like this:

V'Ger, in desperation to find the Creator, spreads out and dominates most of what we call the Federation. V'Ger sends out smaller 8X tech Cloud-Ship versions of itself, desperately trying to find its Creator, a task which it can now never complete. The Cloud-Ships fire gigantic plasma torpedoes which completely turn the target into energy to be stored as a data pattern. The Cloud-Ships themselves are protected by large cloud which absorbs a large amount of damage.

The Federation is a bunch of desperate thieves and cutthroats looking to survive the devastation. Most of the other Galactic races encounter the Cloud-Ships; they have whole fleets and worlds turned into energy patterns and stored. It is not until a year later that the races start to develop 2X technology in an attempt to survive. The various fleets turn and explore away from the Federation, heading to the east towards the Omega Sector, the west towards the Companion Games races, and to the north for unknown territory.

In order to understand the SSDs and such I must first present some notes on how to play 2X SFB. Generally, if something isn't mentioned below, it plays like normal SFB (with my normal additions in the non-TNG rules supplement).

2X rules notes:

OK, that's all for Part 1. Part 2 starts to actually spew Shattered Universe SSDs.
