Y165-Y169 (Stardate 7600-8200) [Galactic-V'Ger War]

Unlike my previous 2X ships, these ships generally do not have TWARP and AXRs.
Many of these ships are unique, as the races desperately cobbled together ships to form some sort of defense (think Matt Brock's "Frankenstein Fleet"). :)
The Next Generation (and the TNG rules packet including mega-boxes and such) is NOT in the future of the Shattered Universe; the Shattered Universe's bizarre future will be covered in Part 4.
Without further delay, he we go...

(R1.266) Generic 2Xs Planetary Evacuation Ship
Many races used ships such as these to evacuate planets that were about to go under V'Ger attack.
The ship's name is a bit optimistic, it takes hundreds of these ships dozens of trips to evacuate a planet.
However, this is the best that many races could do.
The PH-X is identical to a PH-OPT, and the WPN is identical to a OPT-S, except PH-X and WPN cannot be changed during a scenario.

(R2.266) Federation 2Xs Evader Plasma-Killer
This ship is a good indication as to the Federation's desperate state.
The ship is shieldless; instead it has a special structural integrity field that allows the ship to have six warp engines in very close proximity.
This field requires no energy, but prohibits the use of normal shields.
The ship does have Energizable Armor, which can be reinforced like shields.
The ship relies on devastating the 1000 point V'Ger plasmas with a tons of PH-6's and variant Photon ammo.
Among its variant ammo is a damaging form of Genesis Torpedo, meant for the main V'Ger itself.
BTTY-DR acts like normal BTTY except it has higher capacity and costs twice as much to recharge.

(R2.267) Federation 2Xs Ross Super-Battleship
This unique gigantic ship plays a monitor-type role in some of the surviving outer Federation systems.
It originally had huge shields, then experiments in Neutronium Hull allowed the ship to have a system very similar to Species 8472 Skin.

(R2.220) Federation 2Xe Revised Supplement #2 Battleship
This is simply a BB version of the revised Supplement #2 cruiser.
It's a little off-theme here, but it was already done and I figured it might be interesting as a comparison.

(R3.266) Klingon 2Xs C-10Y Double-Hull Battlecruiser
The Klingons tried to stay in their original area, and suffered heavy losses to V'Ger.
This ship is a C-10 converted to 2X technology, with an extra rear hull behind the existing one.

(R3.267) Klingon 2Xs B-22 Super Battleship
This huge ship was similar to the Federation Ross class, it mainly served as a monitor.
Unlike the Ross class, it didn't have enough guns to shoot down the V'Ger plasmas, and was easily destroyed by a Cloud-Ship.
One of these ships (commanded by Commander Kruge) saved Admiral Kirk and company from an attacking V'Ger Cloud-Ship in Federation space.

(R3.211) Klingon 2Xe B-22 Revised Supplement #2 Battleship
Another Supplement #2 SSD for comparison purposes.

(R4.266) Romulan 2Xs Automated Defense Ship
The Romulan Empire didn't make it to the main 2X era; the entire empire was completely destroyed by Y168.
In the end, 2X Automated Defense Ships were being produced in mass quantities in an attempt to overwhelm the V'Ger Cloud-Ships (they failed).
These ships have a new Anti-Plasma (APP) system, designed to shoot down plasmas (just like ADD's shooting down drones).
The Romulans, in a final act of spite, released a horrible Ancient Empires Rulavian weapon which destroyed most of the solar systems in a 200 light-year radius and took out 5 Cloud-Ships with it.

(R5.266) Kzinti 2Xs Drone Battleship
The Kzinti discovered that drones damage V'Ger plasmas, and the Cloud-Ships would not shoot down the drones to help protect the plasma (the Cloud-Ships would just fire another one instead).
The Drone Battleship shown here has three equally-spaced "spokes" which form a "V" pattern when viewed from the front (they are not really side-by-side as the SSD suggests).
The ship could continuously destroy 3 V'Ger plasmas a turn, which was very impressive compared to other races.

(R6.266) Gorn 2Xs 8 Bubble Super Battleship
The Gorns decided to try to "slug it out" with the V'Ger Cloud Ships, and built 10 of these gigantic vessels which could absorb 4 V'Ger plasmas before taking internals.
The SSD is vertical instead of horizontal due to the ship's extreme length (the shield is 360 degree with 3400 boxes).
One of the 10 ships actually had 12 bubbles; it had another set of 1 large + 3 small.
The lack of small units meant that many Gorn systems were unprotected, and their slow speed made it difficult for the ships to be in the right place at the right time.
The Gorn Confederation fell a year after the Romulans were destroyed.

(R7.266) Tholian 2Xs Battle Frigate
The Tholians knew they could be easily defeated, especially since the Cloud-Ships completely ignored webs.
They successfully invented TWARP and left the galaxy in search of a new home.
The Tholians did manage to capture an Andromedan RTN node and studied it to assist in extra-galactic exploration.

(R8.266) Orion 2Xs SOUPS (Special Operations Under Private Service)
The planet Orion was one of the first to be destroyed, and the Orions scattered across the Alpha and Beta Quadrants.
One Orion ship travelling north of ISC space came across a destroyed Cloud-Ship, and discovered part of a 8X plasma data-net still intact.
The data-net is represented on the SSD as the 5 EMER STORAGE boxes.
These Orions became rich by allowing others to study the data-net (even though no one could really access the information it contained).
Eventually they were able to expand and modify their vessel to this large ship.

(R9.266) Hydran 2Xs Legend Supercarrier
The V'Ger Cloud-Ships would fire on PFs, but cheerfully ignored fighters until they fired first.
Thus, the Hydrans built large Supercarriers that would launch fighters at a great distance (more than 10000 hexes distant) and allow them to engage the enemy.
At least one Cloud-Ship was heavy damaged (if not destroyed) from this tactic.
Unfortunately, the Hydrans required large fueling tankers for the fighters due to the distance they had to travel, and the tankers were too slow to be tactically useful.
Various attempts were made to allow the Legend class to carry fuel pods, but they all failed strategically.

(R10.266) Andromedan 2Xs Disintegrator Battleship
The Andromedans knew they could not deal with the V'Ger cloud ships, and decided to return to Andromeda.
The SSD shows a refitted Andro as they prepared to escape the Milky Way galaxy.
A Cloud-Ship visited the LMC and sent robots comprised of plasma energy, and saw the Andro robots slaving over the tiny (1" tall) slime-like Andromedans.
The Cloud-Ship removed the infestation, and gave the robots new life and sentience.
These new Andromedans served the Cloud-Ship faithfully for years in the LMC until it was decided the Creator was not there.

(R11.266) Lyran 2Xs Blood Star County Command Cruiser
The Blood Star County explored to the north-west, and encountered the Bajorans and the Cardassians.
The SSD shows a typical Lyran ship as they expanded away from the Federation.
The Bajorans were friendly towards the Lyrans, and let them build a base there.
The Lyrans swept the local dust cloud with ESGs, and they discovered the Bajoran Wormhole.
The Cardassians and the Lyrans had a short war in Y169 to determine control of the Wormhole, which the Lyrans won.

(R12.266) WYN 2Xs Auxiliary Battleship
The WYNs, via human-sounding radio signals, successfully tricked a Cloud-Ship into believing the Creator was in the Cluster.
When the Cloud Ship encountered the WYN radiation, its cloud defense flickered and failed for a short time (perhaps 1 turn in SFB terms).
The WYN fleet, following in a very close parallel course (with more ships waiting on the other side), released a gigantic boarding action (over 1000 boarding parties in a single impulse).
The SSD shows the flagship of the WYN fleet at that time.
The WYN suffered heavy casualties but managed to take control of the computer at the Cloud-Ship's core.
For the first time, the exact statistics of the operation of a Cloud-Ship was known:

(R99.801) Monster 8Xl V'Ger Cloud-Ship
This SSD uses normal boxes.
The warp engines are indeed 15625000 point (each box produces 15625000 power).
The WYNs had control of the ship, and their first act was to scan and understand the cause of the Heat Spots within the Cluster.
Finally, the WYNs knew how to "cure" the Heat Spot problem, and they only needed 0X (normal) technology to do it.
About an hour after they had assumed control of the Cloud-Ship, it completely disappeared (throwing the WYN aboard into vacuum), apparently the entire ship must have been some sort of fabrication that the main V'Ger ship could end at will.

(R13.266) ISC 2Xs Dreadnought
The destruction of the Gorn and Romulan empires isolated the ISC.
On one side was the Gorn-Romulan devastated zone, on the other was the Void to the Omega Sector, and to the north was a race at war with V'Ger (the ISC knew it was the Breen, the World-Fleet, or the Star Control races, but wasn't sure which).
Not knowing exactly what would happen next, the ISC built rather generic ships such as this 2X DN.

Y170 (Stardate 8300) [The three-way split begins]

(R2.268) Federation 2Xs Reliant Former Research Cruiser

Admiral Kirk of the Former Federation, filled with guilt over his failure 6 years ago, shook hands with Commodore Terrell and Captain Decker aboard the refitted Reliant. It had been decided to split the Federation's efforts into three independent operations. This decision is indeed quite logical, Admiral Kirk thought to himself, as he pondered how each expedition would fare:

Captain Decker would lead a small fleet to the west near Lyran and WYN space. A Cloud-Ship had been recently captured by the WYNs, and they may have useful information. The Lyrans had come into contact with a powerful race called the Dominion, who may be able to help against V'Ger.

Commodore Terrell was to go to the Breen, World-Fleet, and Star Control empires to see who was responsible for destroying Cloud-Ships (and how they did it).

Admiral Kirk was recently told by the Jindarians that V'Ger's high-speed communication was similar to one used by a powerful race called the Borg. If V'Ger is similar to the Borg, there are races towards the Galactic Center who may be able to help. Among the races mentioned were the El-Auriens and the Opposition, who were currently at war with the Borg.

Kirk released his grip, and bid farewell to Decker and Terrell.
"Gentlemen, may the wind be at our backs."

Conclusion of SFB End of Millenium Part 2. How these three expeditions fared (plus some additional material) will be described in Part 3.
