Old Updates (mid 2002)
Old Updates (mid 2002)
07/29/2002:
- Over on my AD&D page, I uploaded preliminary Section [T] Table of Contents and Section [P] Player's Reference.
I got a long way to go until all my notes are up.
07/25/2002:
- Here we go, Part 2 of the series I started last week:
- [New SSD] Generic 0Xs Mega Trader
A giant (x3 size) version of the Free Trader.
Can carry two standard cargo pods or two Q-ship pods.
- [New SSD] Federation 0Xs CLC / HDW
Very similar to last week's design, instead of a POL's rear hull it uses an HDW's.
- [New SSD] Klingon 0Xs E6 / C10
An E6 boom on a C10's rear hull.
- [New SSD] Romulan 0Xs Hatchling Battlecruiser
This is an attempt to reduce a ROC down to BC size.
- [New SSD] Kzinti 0Xs BB / BF
A BB forward section (and rear pods) on a BF rear hull.
- [New SSD] Gorn 0Xs Wide/Long Bubble CMBC
A Gorn with a wide forward bubble (from Star Fleet Times) and a long back bubble (from Captain's Log).
- [New SSD] Tholian 0Xs DDP / NCL
Don't have a command module for that NCL rear hull?
No problem, just use a slightly modified DD instead...
- [New SSD] Orion 0Xs Heavy Heavy Battlecruiser
An even heavier version of the BCH, with two pairs of wing assemblies.
- [New SSD] Hydran 0Xs Convoy Tug w/ 2 Battle Pods
A new Hydran Tug that can carry 2 pallets (as opposed to the Caravan which has the built-in cargo pallet and can carry one more).
With Alternate Weapons Z and battle pods, this ship has 15 hellbores (!) and plays a lot like a Britanian/Hispaniolan.
- [New SSD] Andromedan 0Xs Lady of Pain Experimental BCH
Several of this design were seen in the LMC during Operation Unity (none arrived in our galaxy).
These appear to be a "narrow" (roughly 2 center boxes removed) version of the Dominatrix class, with smaller engines.
It seemed to be used as a test-bed for various experimental technology (PH-1, ED, 6 point batteries, NWO's, etc.).
One was seen operating a crude version of a cloaking device.
The single Hangar box was almost always used for an energy module.
- [New SSD] Lyran 0Xs BCH / DNH
This bizarre design is a single DNH side-hull with two BCH center hulls (one on each side), with the little end-caps used on the DND.
- [New SSD] WYN 0Xs Blue Whale Fast Tug
A Blue Shark converted to a tug design, which can carry two modules used for Aux-type ships.
The SSD shows two AuxDN modules, but others (such as the AuxSCS) could be used.
The ship is similar to an "AuxFish" design I posted about 2 years ago (it's in the RaceGrid).
- [New SSD] ISC 0Xs 2 Boom Battleship
A battleship reduced to two booms and one engine.
- [New SSD] LDR 0Xs CA / MP
An LDR CA with a Military Police center section added.
- [New SSD] Seltorian 0Xs Heavy Heavy Battlecruiser
A BC rear hull with three booms (two DD and one CA).
- [New SSD] Jindarian 0Xs Heavy Heavy Battlecruiser
A BCH widened to have four engines instead of three.
- [New SSD] Vudar 0Xs Heavy Battlecruiser
I don't know if there's been a Vudar BCH before, but here's my take on it.
- [New SSD] Paravian 0Xs Heavy Battlecruiser
Ditto for the Paravians, I don't know if someone's done this before or not.
- Well, besides working on SSDPRINT and SSD Requests, I have a couple of more series planned:
- Slow Cruisers:
(also "Semi-Monitors") are the opposite of Fast Cruisers.
They have very little warp (and cannot HET), but are packed with reactors and weapons.
The reasoning is that every race has central systems which need to be defended constantly, so ships such as these would be built.
[Example SSD] Federation 0Xs Slow Heavy Cruiser
- Component Swapping for Don SSDs:
This pretty self-explanatory and will range in tech from 0X to 4X.
[Example SSD] Klingon 1X Suvwi'qeh boom on Great Bird rear hull
- I also want to do more of old series I did long ago (Revised Lower Tech, 1X versions of R6/R7 ships, etc.).
07/15/2002:
- So, what does Don do when he's VERY bored, and not in the mood to work on SSD Requests (or SSDPRINT)?
This is the first of two series of 0Xs "component swapping" ships.
They are generally "Super Heavy Cruisers" with move cost 1 and 33-36 warp, and can be used with regular SFB (generally no "Don" weird systems).
- [New SSD] Federation 0Xs CLC / POL
A rear hull of a POL placed on a CLC. Alternate Weapons Z refit added too (that's the refit from Star Fleet Times that places the heavy weapons of Allied races on the engines).
- [New SSD] Klingon 0Xs C8 / HF5
A C8 boom on a HF5 rear hull.
- [New SSD] Romulan 0Xs KFWCR / SphK Modules
I took a Klingon FWC, converted it to Romulan, then added two Sparrowhawk-K modules across the rear hull.
I figured the Roms would try something like this at least once.
- [New SSD] Kzinti 0Xs Strike Cruiser-4Z
This is a "4 engine" refit of a CS. I also Alternate Weapons Z refitted it too (of course).
- [New SSD] Gorn 0Xs HDBT / P-HB
This is one of those wide Gorn DD's from Star Fleet Times turned into an LTT, with a battle pod.
- [New SSD] Tholian 0Xs CCH / PPC
I took a CCH and added a PC hull to the rear, in the middle.
It's sort of like a DPW in a strange way.
- [New SSD] Orion 0Xs AR / DW
An AR who replaces each wing with half of a DW.
- [New SSD] Hydran 0Xs Heavy Iroquois
This is an Iroquois with a larger (10 box) center engine, and Alternate Weapons Z.
- [New SSD] Andromedan 0Xs Double-Bubble Conquistador
The Andros make larger bases by welding SatBases together, why not try it with ships?
This welds two Conquistadors side by side to form a "Battlecruiser".
- [New SSD] Lyran 0Xs DNH / BCH
Two light cruiser (10 warp) side sections with a DNH (15 warp) center section.
I think the reverse (two CA 15 warp side sections with a BC 10 warp center section) might have been done before somewhere else as a light DN.
- [New SSD] WYN 0Xs Fishnaught (DN of CW)
A DN of the Orca CW, making a rather nasty BC.
- [New SSD] ISC 0Xs 4-boom CS
A CS expanded to 4 booms.
07/04/2002:
05/15/2002:
05/03/2002:
- SFB:
- I haven't updated for a while (been busy with work and such) so I thought I'd toss up a few SSDs real quick.
- [New SSD] Generic 0Xs Large Armed Q-Ship
The ultimate large freighter.
Take the standard armed freighter, use Q-ship modules (so you have 4 heavy weapons), add two skids.
I considered "Alternate Weapons Z" refitting it too (to have 6 heavy weapons), but even I have a limit. :)
- [New SSD] Tholian 0Xs Monitor Cruiser
The Tholians didn't have enough heavy units in the General War? Just slap a couple of big engines on a monitor... :)
- [1st Request #12] Monster 8Xl V'Ger
This is the actual V'Ger from Star Trek I. It uses "Super-Planet" boxes, each representing 1000000 (one million) normal boxes.
- [1st Request #13] Federation 8Xl Enterprise-R
A horror from the 30th century.
- [1st Request #14] Andorian 0Xl War Cruiser
Another one of my Andorian designs, it's a mix of PHD's Andorian and ADB's Andorian races.
- [1st Request #15] Federation 2Xe Revised Supplement #2 Space Control Ship
This ship would use my "Thunderbolt-2X" PFs I already had up in this older file.
- [1st Request #16] Romulan 0Xs Fasthawk-M
Modified M-modules on a Fasthawk. Lots of PL-D's. :)
- [Modified SSD] Klingon 0Xl C-7K Super-Heavy Cruiser
This was a quick (old style) mod of an older design.
- OK, I'm off to run my 2002 SFB Campaign (dark matter! magic and spellcasting in SFB! weird new races! whee!); I'll try to update again next week.
04/19/2002:
04/05/2002:
- Another small update to say that I'm "still alive". More component-swapping ships.
- SFB:
- [New SSD] Kzinti 0Xs Fast Super SCS Carrier "Z"
This is the SSCS with the big carrier pods from this PHD design, with the "Fast" and "Z" refits.
Confused? I was when I made it. :)
- [New SSD] Gorn 0Xs Police Flagship (Battle Pod)
Those crazy police commissioners do some pretty desperate things.
This is the normal Police Flagship with it's head replaced with a Battle Pod! (In reverse even)
Such a ship would of course have some problematic "issues" in combat.
- [New SSD] Tholian 0Xs New Admiralty Assault Ship
The "AA" class is meant to be one step larger than the "BB" class of the race.
The Home Galaxy Tholians hoped this design could be built in the same facilities that produced the NBB.
The "Collar Ship" can be an independent ship component, or may stay attached to either the command module or the rear hull when they detach.
The NAA can function without the Collar Ship, or it could use a standard NBB Collar.
- I'm starting to generate a LOT of unfinished SSDs, like this one and this one, plus a bunch of those SSD Requests.
Working 40 hours a week, running 2 games (D&D and SFB) and playing in 3 others each week is taking it's toll on my time.
Until things lighten up (after the spring semester?) I'm going to be doing small updates for a while.
03/22/2002:
- This update is a little small; it's more to say that I'm "still alive" more than anything else.
- SFB:
- [New SSD] Federation 0Xs FFB Saucer / POL Rear
I'm a big fan of swapping hull components around.
This is the Captain's Edition FFB with the center engine replaced with the Police Cruiser's rear hull.
- [New SSD] Klingon 0Xs HF6W Frigate Cruiser
This is a "frignaut" of the HF5 from Module R6, with the boom of the D5W.
- [New SSD] Romulan 0Xs SupremeHawk Plasma Dreadnought
I admit it, this ship is insane.
I put the joke FlambeHawk PL-R modules (from SFT 41) on a MegaHawk (from R7), with has the extra power upgrades of a SuperHawk.
- One last tidbit: it has finally happened.
I installed something (or screwed something up), and now the older (QBASIC) SSDPRINT no longer works properly on my laptop.
The graphics are screwy, even with a fresh copy of the program.
This means I *must* get the Visual Basic version done ASAP, as I can't type in SSDs away from my apartment until it's done.
I'll let you know how it's going.
03/07/2002:
- OK, getting back into the mindset of working on gaming stuff again.
I have the next five SSD requests partially done, the next two were very difficult to do (as you will see when I put them up later).
- SFB:
- A new banner (above) for March.
- [New Scenario] SFB Royal Rumble
A bizarre idea based on the WWF's Royal Rumble format.
Speaking of the WWF, I have tickets to WWF Raw on March 25th, 2002.
I will be "camera side" (so I get filmed a lot) and will probably hold a "Smileylich" sign (with an arrow pointing down). :)
- [New SSD] WYN 0Xl Stone Cold Steve Austin Gladiator Ship
The WYN "Gladiator ships" are named after pro wrestlers; here's an example of the types of ships used in the Royal Rumble scenario.
- AD&D:
- [Play Aid] Items list (February 2002)
This was a magic item checklist I've been using until recently.
Of course it's out of date, and needs descriptions, but it's a decent start.
- [Play Aid] Spell list (February 2002)
Again, out of date, but it's a decent enough reference until I get something better done.
Here's an Excel version which might be easier to work with.
- MTG:
- [Deck] Hell's Fisherman Deck
I play an awful lot of Type I (Classic) multi-player games.
This deck generates a whole bunch (sometimes infinite number) of token creatures, then throws them all over.
Great fun, and the deck works well in practice.
- [Silly] Magocracy expansion
I wrote a 300 card fake expansion from 1996 to 1997.
I submitted it to WOTC, but they rejected it. :(
You can see the original post from 1997, there was a 1996 early version too.
- [Silly] Cloud Leviathan card
I then made JPGs of Magocracy cards in 1998, this one would be very nice for the Hell's Fisherman deck above. :)
02/28/2002:
- I started a new job last week (SAS programming again), so I have lifted my ban on working on gaming material.
I seem to be cursed running a webpage, we'll see how long this lasts. :)
I'm going to try to do frequent small updates instead of large ones for the time being.
- SFB:
- [1st Request #11] Dominion 4Xl Shipyards
Yes, I'm finally back to finishing up those requests I took in November 2001.
This one was requested by John Hall. The design appears in Star Trek the Magazine (Nov 2001).
David Brown assisted in providing some of the images I used.
- [New Rule] Overloaded Plasmas
This is a variant plasma overload rule from my 2001 Campaign (which ends soon, by the way).
- AD&D:
My old SFB page (and email) was a victim of the @Home bankruptcy, and I cannot recover that address.
My new email address is smileylich@smileylich.com.
